Zinnias in the snow

I used the asterisk tutorial and Tonya's center square suggestion to make my zinnias. Neither version looks especially like a zinnia, but I do think they have a flowery look and I like them. Any suggestions or other ideas? How do you like the background? I like the color because it has the greens and blues of summer, but am wondering if it will be too dark looking or not enough contrast. The blocks are 4 1/2 inches sq.
These were so much fun to make :)

Cheryl,
what about adding a corner triangle of the background--that would make it more flower-like I think. I took your picture and did a mock-up and I think it will work.

cute flowers!

Jan Mullen has a pattern called "daizies" or something similar. Her pattern looks like an asterisk but with background fabric on the ends of all the "petals" so that the asterisk "floats" in the block.

The colors you have chosen are really great. These blocks look like watercolor paintings.

these are so cute! I like the red and the purple with the background color that you have-

Mary's idea is fabulous - that would be a great way to make these rounder and more flowery. The red and yellow look great against that green, but the purple seems a bit lost. Keep working at it, you're making great progress.

Thanks everybody - can't wait to get back at it and try out your ideas - the feedback really helps. I was thinking about Tonya's comment re: the purple zzzs. It made me think about color choices and attachment to them. I chose the purple because a. I love the color and b. it looks so good against the blue/green background. But yeah, now that you mention it, it may go together too well...as in blend in. Maybe I want the letters to fade into the background a little and be somewhat hidden....but maybe I want them to POP like the zinnias....something to think about. I think I will concentrate on the zinnias for awhile and see what happens.
