***Update***
I wish I had asked for all of your opinions BEFORE I started piecing....so many great ideas. In the end, I have ended up doing a bit of everything...a little appliqué, cutting some straight edges to sew short rows, some set-in corners, some partial hexagons. Just whatever it takes to get it together depending on where each rose is fitting in. I will post pics soon so you can see how it is coming together. It is taking longer than I'd like, but I've made my peace with it. Hopefully the top will be done on Monday! Only 3 more roses to go out of 30 and then the wonky borders. Yeah! THANK YOU for all the encouragement and ideas. Although I haven't used all of them for this top, I now have a plethora of things I want to try in the future. You are all FABULOUS!!!!- Andrea
My roses are so wonky I am having a bear of a time putting them together. Tried set-in seams... disastrous. Doing some appliqué edges, some straight seams...it is taking forever. Anyone have some suggestions? I don't want to turn them into squares, but at this point that's all I can think of that won't take a DECADE to complete. I'd love to hear any ideas you might have...

Maybe you need one common color to connect the WONDERFUL roses together, be it one of the rose colors or maybe a green. then you could set it together in squares. but it wouldn't look like squares.

How about doing them like snowball blocks? They'd be more circle-like than square-like.
that's a good idea of Kristin's. hexagons all fit together. that would be a lot of work and quite frankly I've never tackled anything like that. If you truly want to avoid squares, how about appliqueing all of these down to a base fabric? good luck!
applique might be a tad easier if you create each flower like a 'pillow'.... right sides together... sew around... turn.
Then all your edges are done.. applique to a background or to background blocks... do a pieced green background then lay them out random... rick rack stems and leaves...

A yet simpler approach is to convert each rose into a square with a common color - I personally would use pale pinks or peaches, and then after it is pieced together, applique leaf shapes randomly ot "disguize" the seams.
What about incorporating the soft edge applique technique? Look up Heather French's French Roses pattern online and you'll see what I mean... Incorporating this with Supermom's idea above should give you GRAND results...
How about putting fusible on the back...fusing it down to a background...and secure the edges with straight stitching? You would still be able to see the background peeking out and would have the option of overlapping them some if you want...
I also came up with Scarlett's idea, but on the green side. Add various greens to four corners to finish out your "squares." When you stitch them together, it will look like green peeking through, but since all those corners will be different shapes & sizes, it won't look like squares stitched together. You could use enough green to float some of the roses or as little as possible--to make the peeking "leafy" background or a combination of both.
I would use the fusible like Beth suggested but would use a fun, decorative stitch on the edge. The flowers are great!
